Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.

Anti-snoring aids are used to reduce or eliminate snoring. The term may include devices as well as some medications.

As most people know, snoring can be disruptive to both the snorer and anyone sharing the bedroom, and in very bad cases even people in other rooms. Snoring is not just annoying, however---it can produce very real health risks, including:

  • Disrupted breathing
  • High blood pressure
  • Increased heart strain
  • Frequent waking
  • Inability to achieve deep sleep
  • Chronic fatigue from poor sleep

Fortunately many people can manage snoring with anti-snoring aids, often eliminating it completely. Such aids can provide some much-needed rest while the underlying cause of the snoring is addressed, or they may be used indefinitely if needed.

Before you Buy Anti-Snoring Aids

Many people buy anti-snoring aids without first understanding what the cause of their snoring is, then discard the device as useless when it doesn't help. Snoring has many causes and the cause should be the number one factor in choosing a device or treatment to address it:

  • Tongue - Sometimes the tongue can fall too far back in the throat, due to poor muscle tone, sedation from alcohol or other drugs, injury and other causes. This type of snoring usually occurs only while sleeping on the back.
  • Nasal passages - Some people have narrow nasal passages that promote snoring; others may experience narrowed passages from infections, polyps, injury, allergies and so forth.
  • Throat - Large tonsils or adenoids may cause snoring, as may an inflamed or irritated throat from allergies, infection or injury. Overweight individuals may also experience narrowed airways as surrounding tissues press inward.
  • Soft palate and uvula - If the soft palate and/or uvula are unusually long or swollen this can narrow the passage between the nose and throat, which causes snoring.

The first step is to determine what type of snoring is being experienced; a spouse or partner may be able to help with identifying the source.

Happily there are quite a few non-invasive, accessible and relatively inexpensive solutions available for all snoring causes. They are not 100 percent effective in all cases, but they are definitely worth a try---especially considering the most likely alternatives consist of surgery or chronic sleep deprivation.

Choosing the Right Anti-Snoring Aid

Modern snorers have the option to buy anti-snoring aids designed to address particular causes of snoring, making them considerably more likely to be effective:

  • Tongue Retainers - These devices use suction to gently secure the tongue in a forward, slightly-extended position. There are usually flanges on the outside of the device to keep it from entering the mouth and becoming a choking hazard. This type of anti-snoring aid is ideal for those who snore because of an overly-relaxed tongue. See AveoTSD for more information about this type of device.
  • Mandibular Advancement Devices - These are usually self-molded before first use by warming them up and gently biting into them so they conform to the shape of the mouth. They are worn all night and slightly reposition the lower jaw to better open the throat. Ideal for throat snoring. These devices do work for many people, but also tend to cause tooth and jaw pain, and many users find them uncomfortable to sleep with.
  • Nasal Devices - There are a variety nasal devices, from strips designed to spread the nostrils open to small devices inserted inside the nostrils. The latter is by far the most effective. Ideal for nasal snoring. See Snoreben for more information.
  • Sprays and Dissolvable Strips - These treatments lubricate the nasal passages and tissues at the back of the throat, reducing vibrations and therefore snoring. Ideal for soft palate and uvula snoring, some types of throat snoring, and in nasal spray form, for nasal snoring. See Snoreeze Oral Strips, Snoreeze Throat Spray, or Snoreeze Nasal Spray.
